Mandya district is part of large plateau from Mysore to the edges of Easter Ghats. Therefore, there are not many legends describing the origin of the district as such, but there are quite a few legends describing the origin of the place. Mandya seems to have been known as ‘Vedaranya’ and later, as ‘Vishnupura’ in Kritayuga. It is said that a rishi (sage) was doing a penance here and installed an image of God Janardana and was said to be teaching wild beast to pronounce the sacred word, VEDA. On this account, the place came to be known as ‘Vedaranya’. Mandya is also called as Sugar city (which in Kannada means Sakkare nagara) because sugarcane is a major crop. Kendriya Vidyalaya Mandya is a civil sector school established in the year 2015-16 and Deputy Commissioner of Mandya is the Chairman of this Vidyalaya. The Vidyalaya started functioning with the Classes I to V from 22.06.2015 onwards in a temporary accommodation in Old TB Sanitorium Building, B. Hosur Colony, Keragodu Hobli, Mandya has been actively engaged in the earnest pursuit of educating the children and nurturing them into grown up proud and confident citizen of the country. it is an earnest endeavour of this Vidyalaya to develop the all round personality of the students and to impart in them a feelings of responsibility towards their lives..
